LEXINGTON, KY - TOUR
STOP
July 23 & 24, 2006
We’re
almost done with the state of Kentucky before we make the trip south to
the sunny Florida beaches, but there’s still some baseball to be seen
and fun to be had in the Bluegrass State. This time we got to see a
little Cal Ripken Baseball as 10 and 11-year-olds were squaring off in
the Cal Ripken Baseball Ohio Valley Regional
Championships.
Veterans
Park in Lexington was a great spot to have the tournaments as tons of
people poured in to root on the teams. Only two fields were used for
game play at the park, but that opened up the other two for teams to
take infield before their games started. There was also a place for
players to take batting practice if they wanted.
The
Baseball Youth Road Trip zone was right in the middle of the action, and
the people at Veterans Park could not miss us because a lot of them had
to go through us to get to their cars. As the morning turned into
afternoon more and more kids and parents stopped by to play the Baseball
Card Challenge and take a look at the magazine.
We even
had a Battle of the Sexes competition as two teenage girls challenged a
couple baseball players from their town to play the game against them.
In a close game the girls won by a point and both of them got to spin
the wheel for a free prize.
It was
great to experience some Cal Ripken Baseball for the first time on our
Road Trip. Good thing it will not be our last time.
