HUNTSVILLE, AL -
TOUR STOP
July 27, 2006
The
Baseball Youth Road Trip continues movin’ down south to the warm, sunny
paradise that is Florida, but before we break out the beach towels and
sunscreen, we decided to make a stop to see the AA
Huntsville Stars and Birmingham Barons
go at it.
The
famous NASA Space Camp may call Huntsville, Ala., its home, but we found
a hidden gem in Joe W. Davis Municipal Stadium. The Stars were looking
to continue their chase up the Southern League’s North Division leader
board, and they did just that with a 8-1 win over the Barons. It was the
Stars’ fourth win in a row
Fans
poured into the stadium to cheer on the Stars and the Baseball Youth
zone was right there at the entrance to greet them. People of all ages
played the Baseball Card Challenge and won free prizes, including
several stadium workers sneaking a break.
Two lucky
kids won the chance to go on the field in the middle of the fourth
inning for a chance to win free tickets to a future Stars game. They
went on the field wearing their Baseball Youth Road Trip shirts proudly
and won their tickets.
It was
great experiencing another minor league game, and now it’s time to head
out of Alabama so we can get to the Sunshine State for some more youth
baseball.
