HOPKINSVILLE, KY -
TOUR STOP
July 14 & 15, 2006
As
players, parents, brothers and sisters walked into Tie Breaker Park in
Hopkinsville, Ky., Friday they were greeted by the massive Baseball
Youth Road Trip trailer in the second stop of the tour.
In the
Bluegrass State, the main event was the National
Amateur Baseball Federation Freshman World Series with 14 teams
participating. Turns out we were one day late as Onley Pirates pitcher Danny
Martinson pitched a perfect game in the tournament’s first contest.
We did not
see pitching’s hardest feat, but the good weather must have traveled with us
from Memphis because it was a perfect day for our national pastime. Only a
freak one minute rain shower from the lone small dark cloud in the sky
delayed the fun and games.
Just two
stops into our long journey, and we can already tell what player most people
love because they always want his baseball card above anyone else. That
player is St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols. While not everyone
could get their paws on a Pujols card, everyone won multiple prizes
throughout the day.
Louisville
and Crosby Park better be ready for an unbelievably great time because the
Baseball Youth Road Trip moves there next.
