ABERDEEN, MD - TOUR
STOP
August 17-21, 2006
The
end of August means summer’s leaving us and school’s beginning. It also
means two of youth baseball’s biggest events are going on, and the
Baseball Youth Road Trip will be there to see them. First, we stopped in
Aberdeen, Md., for the final three days of the Cal Ripken World Series.
We
got the zone going just beyond the outfield wall, and once we got the
cards and prize wheel out it was like kids were magnetized to them. The
first day we were there we had a special game called ‘Pack Wars,’ and
the game was full of incredible new prizes. Kids walked away with
figurines, card sets, an Ichiro jersey and someone even won an Xbox
system with two games.
The
kids were extremely loud this weekend, and with so many of them our ears
are still ringing. They were all so excited to play the Baseball Card
Challenge and our new game, Pack Wars. We probably spent more time with
some of the kids this weekend than their parents.
As
far as the World Series went, a team from Hawaii won it all for the
second straight year. Mexico made it to the finals for the third
straight year, but they could not figure out a way to keep the powerful
Hawaii hitters from scoring runs.
Only one more stop remains, and it’s Williamsport, Pa., for the Little
League World Series.
